The search engine rankings of the web pages depends mainly on the optimization level of the page, which is called the SEO. The off-page techniques include anchor text, page health, site targeting, link building and paid links. Out of these link building is very essential for the SEO of the page.

This is so because at present the majority of the search engines are using the link popularity as the criteria to evaluate the quality of the website. Each external link that you get to your website, acts like a "vote" for your website. But at the same time the site from where the link is coming decides the importance of the vote. For example, if you were getting links from established and authoritative sites like the CNN and the Wikipedia, these votes would be rated much higher than if you are getting the links from some lesser-known websites. Thus the quality of the origin of the link is equally important to improve your rankings, as it would establish the authenticity and quality of your website.

So what are the aspects of quality links and how important are they for link building?

The quality links depend upon various factors like the anchor text, variety of the anchor text, authority and the relevancy of the linking sites, and also the destination of those links. Though we cannot stop the inflow of links and monitor the quality, but still we can take certain steps, so that we can get quality links.

A good anchor text is a group of words that make up the link and turn your mouse pointer into a finger-pointing hand. In this, the quality of the anchor text plays a very big role in link building and ultimately the ranking of the pages for those specific keywords. Another important factor of good anchor text is the variety of the anchor text. You should have the links for different keywords rather than concentrate only on one or two. The authority of the linking site plays a very big role in deciding the quality of your website. Hence, always try from good authoritative sites to improve your standing in the search engine rankings.

Like the authority, the relevancy of the linking site is also important. If you are getting links from the other sites who are dealing in the same field, then that becomes more important than those links, which are from some other fields not related to yours.
Till now we have been focusing on the origin of the links and their importance, but then for the SEO, link building and destination of those links is equally important.

You should have link building on the various pages of your website. This is very important as the optimization of your various pages will attract the attention of the search engines towards your site, and its ranking will improve dramatically.
